Getting to Barton Creek Outpost can be a challenge, is often an adventure and is always worth the effort. Lonely Planet named us one of the 5 top places to visit in all of Belize, the only private business in the top 5. Lonely Planet also said, "It's the sort of place you visit for a day and stay for a week." Don't get sidetracked, get here, you'll be happy you did. If you are arriving into San Ignacio there are several ways to get to Barton Creek Outpost. The easiest way is to go to Rosa's Hotel and have them help you sort out transportation. You might also email us or try our cell to see if we are in town, 634-8220. If we are in town (usually every other day) and going back to the Outpost you can ride with us for a donation of $5US per person. The same arrangement applies to leaving the Outpost on scheduled trips. If we are not in San Ignacio when you want to come please let us help you book the cheapest shuttle. Hiring transport to or from the Outpost, using our recommended driver, should run around $30US for up to 4 people. The drive is only about 16 miles but takes around an hour due to the eternally Belizean condition of the 9 mile dirt road. If you need a room in San Ignacio we highly recommend Rosa's Hotel for clean, comfortable rooms, private bath, hot water, free WIFI and free continental breakfast. AC &TV at midrange pricing, $25-$35US. Give them a call at 675-1922 for more info. Although hitchhiking is common in Belize we do not recommend backpacking it to get to Barton Creek Outpost. The road is long, hot and lonely and the majority of people that try to hitchhike have ended up walking the 9 miles of dirt road, with their packs, wishing they paid the $30. Private shuttles are reasonably priced and available from Belize City or the airport to San Ignacio.
